Nickel-Plated Strip, Explained
Can I use nickel-plated strip for a 48 V e-bike battery?
Often yes, if the current per strip stays within a safe limit. For heavy-current packs use a thicker strip, more strips in parallel, or pure nickel. Share your pack current with us and we will suggest a size.
What does 2P and CD mean in the product names?
2P means one strip joins two cells in parallel. CD is the centre-to-centre distance between those two cells. Pick the CD that matches your cell holder or pack layout.
What is the minimum order quantity?
It is shown on each product page. For example, the 1P 8x0.15 mm strip lists a minimum of 4 kg. You can add it to your quote and confirm on WhatsApp.
Do you deliver across India?
Yes. We dispatch from Noida to pack makers in Delhi NCR, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and other cities. Tell us your city when you request a quote.
How should I store nickel strip during the monsoon?
Keep it sealed in a dry bag with silica gel and avoid opening coils in humid air. Dry strip welds more consistently.
Pure Nickel Strip for High-Current Packs
Is pure nickel strip worth the extra cost?
For high-current, hot-climate or long-life packs, usually yes. The lower resistance cuts heat at the joints and the strip stays clean. For small low-current packs, plated strip is often enough.
Which pure nickel strip fits 21700 cells?
Use a 2P strip made for the 21700 format, or a 1P strip in the width your layout needs. The listings show width, thickness and centre distance so you can match your holder.
What are zig-zag nickel strips used for?
Zig-zag strips flex slightly, which helps absorb cell movement and thermal expansion. We list zig-zag options for 18650 and 33140 cells.
Can I weld pure nickel with my existing spot welder?
Most pack makers do. Pure nickel is softer than plated steel, so start with lower energy and test pull strength on a sample before production.
Do you supply pure nickel strip across India?
Yes, from Noida with GST invoice. Send your quantity and city on WhatsApp and we will quote with dispatch time.
Tin-Coated Copper Busbars
What size copper busbar do I need for a 100 Ah LFP cell pack?
It depends on your continuous current, not the cell capacity alone. As a rough start, a 20 x 2 mm bar (40 mm²) suits tens of amps; for higher current use a larger section or parallel bars. Send us your pack current and we will advise.
Why is the busbar tin coated?
Tin protects the copper from tarnishing, which keeps joint resistance low and stable, especially in humid and coastal Indian conditions.
Do you make custom length copper busbars?
Yes. Send your terminal spacing, width, thickness and quantity, and we will quote a custom busbar.
Is copper better than aluminium for battery busbars?
Copper conducts better, so a copper bar of the same section runs cooler. Aluminium is lighter and cheaper but needs a larger section and careful joint treatment.
Do you supply copper busbars across India?
Yes, from Noida with GST invoice. If a size shows as out of stock, tap Notify Me and we will confirm availability on WhatsApp.
Spot-Welding Nickel Strip, Step by Step
What energy setting should I use for 0.15 mm nickel strip?
It depends on your welder, so start at the lowest setting and raise it step by step on a scrap cell. Stop when the pull test tears the strip, not the weld.
Why do my welds peel off the cell?
The usual causes are too little energy, a dirty or oxidised surface, or low electrode pressure. Clean the strip and raise the energy a little.
How many weld spots do I need per cell terminal?
Most builders use at least two per terminal. High-current packs often use more or a wider strip. Check with your design and test pull strength.
Can I spot-weld 0.30 mm strip with a hobby welder?
Many hobby welders struggle with 0.30 mm. Test on scrap first, and consider thinner strip in parallel layers if your machine cannot weld it reliably.
Does pure nickel need different settings from plated strip?
Often a little lower energy, because pure nickel is softer. Test each strip type and thickness on your machine.
Build a 48V Scooter Battery Pack
How many cells do I need for a 48V pack?
A 13S Li-ion pack needs 13 cells in series for about 48 V. Multiply by the parallel count for capacity. For example, 13S6P needs 78 cells.
What strip joins the cells in a parallel group?
Most builders use a 2P pre-cut strip or a plain strip across the group. Pick a width that matches your cell spacing and weld pattern.
Why do series links need thicker strip?
Series links carry the full pack current, while each parallel cell carries only a share of it.
Is 48 V LFP different from 48 V Li-ion?
Yes. LFP packs usually use 16 cells in series (about 51.2 V), against 13 for Li-ion. Chargers, BMS and cut-off voltages are different.
Can I use plated strip for an e-scooter?
For low-current builds, often yes. For heavy-current or hot-climate scooters we recommend pure nickel or parallel strips. Send us your pack current and we will suggest a size.
LFP Packs for Solar and Inverters
Can I replace my 12V lead-acid inverter battery with a 4S LFP pack?
Often yes, if the inverter charger has an LFP profile or a compatible setting and the BMS supports your load. Check your inverter manual and keep the BMS rated above peak current.
Which strip fits 32650 LFP cells?
A 2P strip made for the 32650 format, with or without holder, depending on your layout. See the listings for width, thickness and centre distance.
Do prismatic LFP cells use nickel strip?
Usually no. Large prismatic cells use bolted terminals and flat copper busbars.
What size busbar for a 100 Ah LFP cell?
It depends on your continuous current. A 20 x 2 mm bar suits tens of amps; heavier loads need a larger section or parallel bars.
Is LFP safer than regular lithium-ion?
LFP is generally more thermally stable, but pack design, BMS and installation still matter.
Size Your Nickel Strip Right
How do I find the current rating of nickel strip?
There is no single rating, because it depends on allowed temperature rise, strip length and cooling. Calculate resistance and heat for your current as shown here, then confirm with a load test.
What is the resistance of 8 x 0.15 mm nickel strip?
For pure nickel, about 0.58 mΩ per 10 mm of length, from 0.07 Ω·mm²/m divided by the 1.2 mm² cross-section.
Is plated steel strip worse than pure nickel for current?
Yes. The steel core has higher resistance, so the same size runs hotter. It remains fine for lighter loads.
How can I carry more current without changing the strip size?
Add strips in parallel, shorten the path, or move the main path to copper busbar.
Do 2P strips carry more current than 1P?
A wider 2P strip has more cross-section, but its cut-outs reduce it. Measure the narrowest section when you calculate.
Why Your Battery Pack Runs Hot
How hot is too hot for a lithium battery pack?
Follow your cell maker’s data sheet. If the case or any strip is too hot to hold, or one spot is much hotter than the rest, investigate before using the pack further.
How do I know if a spot weld is weak?
Do a pull test on a sample, or measure the voltage drop across the weld under load. A high reading compared with neighbouring welds suggests a weak joint.
Can loose busbar bolts cause heating?
Yes. A loose joint has higher resistance and heats up. Clean the faces and retighten to the cell maker’s torque.
Will pure nickel fix a hot pack?
It lowers strip resistance, which helps. But weld quality and joint design also matter, so test after changing.
Why do packs heat more in Indian summer?
High ambient temperature leaves less margin, and closed enclosures trap heat. Design for the hottest conditions your product will meet.
Nickel Strip Price per kg
Why is pure nickel strip so much costlier than plated?
Pure nickel is nickel all the way through, while plated strip is mostly steel with a thin nickel layer. Nickel is much more expensive than steel.
Does the price per kg change with thickness?
Often yes. Thinner or narrower strip needs more processing per kg, and special forms such as 2P or zig-zag add manufacturing cost.
How many metres are in 1 kg of 8 x 0.15 mm strip?
Roughly 93 m of pure nickel or about 106 m of plated steel strip, from material density and the strip cross-section.
Is GST included in your prices?
The tiles show the store price. GST and freight are confirmed on your quote, so ask us when you request it.
Do you give bulk discounts?
Larger quantities can get better rates. Send your quantity on WhatsApp and we will quote.
Packs for E-Rickshaws and E-Autos
Is copper busbar or nickel strip better for e-rickshaw packs?
It depends on the cell format. Large prismatic LFP cells use bolted copper busbar; cylindrical-cell packs use spot-welded nickel strip. Most new e-rickshaw packs in India use prismatic cells.
How often should busbar bolts be checked on a swapping fleet?
There is no universal interval — follow your pack maker’s maintenance schedule. As a general practice, include torque checks in periodic swap-station servicing, since repeated handling and vibration can loosen joints over time.
Can plated nickel strip handle e-rickshaw current loads?
Often yes for standard loads, but e-rickshaws draw more current than a typical two-wheeler. Size the strip for your actual continuous and peak current, and consider pure nickel for higher-load or long-life fleet packs.
Do you supply fleet quantities for e-rickshaw manufacturers?
Yes, we supply bulk quantities with GST invoice from Noida. Share your monthly volume and pack design and we will quote accordingly.
Power-Tool Battery Packs
Should I use plated or pure nickel strip for a power tool battery?
Pure nickel is the standard choice for power tools because of the high peak current during use. Plated strip is better suited to lower-current, cost-sensitive packs.
Does vibration affect nickel strip welds?
Yes. Repeated vibration can fatigue a weld over time. Tools and drones benefit from extra weld points and strip layouts that avoid long unsupported spans.
What strip size suits a drone battery pack?
It depends on your motor’s peak current draw and your weight budget. Calculate the cross-section needed for your peak current, then weigh that against how much strip weight your drone can carry.
Can I get small quantities for prototyping a power tool pack?
Yes, check the minimum order quantity shown on each product, and contact us on WhatsApp if you need a smaller prototype quantity.
UPS and Telecom Backup Packs
Why use tin-coated copper busbar for telecom backup packs?
Tin coating resists tarnishing better than bare copper, which helps keep joint resistance low and stable over years of standby duty, especially in humid or coastal sites.
How is sizing different for a UPS pack versus an EV pack?
Size for your worst-case discharge current during an outage and how long outages typically last in your area, rather than for frequent high-current cycling like an EV sees.
Is pure nickel strip necessary for a small home UPS pack?
For smaller, lower-current home UPS packs, plated strip may be adequate. For telecom towers or data centre backup with higher sustained currents, pure nickel is the safer choice.
Do you supply custom-length copper busbars for UPS racks?
Yes, send your terminal spacing and quantity and we will quote a custom length.
Solar Street-Light Packs
Is plated nickel strip good enough for solar street lights?
For most solar street light and lantern packs, yes, since current draw is low. The priority is outdoor durability and consistent quality across production, not current capacity.
How many years should a solar light battery pack last?
This depends on your cell choice, usage pattern and build quality, and is a separate question from interconnect choice. Confirm expected life with your cell supplier and test under your actual outdoor conditions.
Should I use pure nickel for export-market solar lights?
Consider it for harsh environments (coastal, desert, high-humidity) or where your product carries a longer warranty, since it offers more corrosion margin. For standard domestic programmes, plated strip is usually sufficient.
Do you supply nickel strip for large municipal lighting tenders?
Yes, we supply bulk quantities with consistent quality and GST invoice from Noida. Share your annual volume and pack design for a quote.
Choosing a Strip and Busbar Supplier
How many sample batches should I test before switching suppliers?
There is no fixed number, but testing at least two to three batches over a few weeks helps reveal batch-to-batch consistency, which a single sample cannot show.
What should I check on a cancelled cheque or GST invoice from a supplier?
Confirm the GSTIN matches the legal entity you are dealing with, and that the HSN code on the invoice matches the product category, for your own input tax credit and compliance records.
Is a lower price always a red flag for nickel strip?
Not necessarily, but an unusually low price versus other quotes is worth investigating specifically: ask about the grade, plating thickness, or copper purity to understand what is actually different.
Can I order a small trial batch before committing to bulk?
Most manufacturers, including us, can usually accommodate a smaller trial quantity near the listed minimum order quantity. Ask directly if your required quantity is below what is listed.
Bulk Nickel Strip: Mistakes to Avoid
How much tolerance is normal on nickel strip thickness?
This varies by manufacturer and grade. Ask your supplier for the specific tolerance on your size, and if your welding process is tolerance-sensitive, request a sample from the actual production batch.
How long should I store nickel strip before it degrades?
Properly sealed with silica gel in dry conditions, strip can be stored for extended periods. The main risk is humidity exposure, particularly during the monsoon, which causes surface oxidation.
Should I always order the cheapest quote?
Not without checking what is behind the price: grade, plating thickness, tolerance and lead time all affect whether a cheaper quote is actually a better deal for your specific pack design.
Can Arambhika confirm a custom size before I order in bulk?
Yes, share your design drawing or specifications on WhatsApp and we will confirm size, lead time and pricing before you place a bulk order.
